A free half day session to help in-house lawyers, FDs, HR and IT Directors understand and deal with the wide ranging obligations of data protection laws
Well publicised security breaches have ensured that the question of data protection compliance is high on the agenda at both public and private sector organisations. With the Information Commissioner having recently secured increased enforcement powers and with a growing number of other regulators able to impose penalties for data protection breaches, organisations need to be clear as to the obligations which they face and their approach to achieving data protection compliance.
Enforcement action is not the only negative consequence of non-compliance which needs to be considered. Many commercial contracts include data protection compliance obligations which if breached could leave an organisation open to claims for damages. In all cases avoiding bad publicity and the prospect of wasted management time are obvious incentives to understanding the range of data protection laws with which UK based organisations must comply.
In this interactive session, members of Osborne Clarke's specialist data protection unit will provide a plain English summary of the requirements of data protection laws, as well as their insights into common mistakes made and best practice to target in data protection compliance. In particular the session will focus on how to minimise the risk and cope with the consequences of a security breach, how to lawfully monitor employees and other best practice for dealing with privacy issues in an HR context.
